This hiring policy is intended to provide a system for filling staff vacancies involving the appropriate FUUSE leadership, which will provide for the hiring of qualified individuals.

The following applies to all salaried and contracted staff excluding the senior minister:
1. The Board of Trustees will notify the Personnel Committee when there is a staff position to be filled. The Personnel Committee will have responsibility for the recruitment process.
2. The Personnel Committee will meet with the supervisor of the vacant position to determine the desired qualifications for candidates and methods of recruitment. In order to avoid conflicting relationships, members of the congregation cannot be considered as candidates for a position except under special circumstances which should be determined by the Board of Trustees prior to posting the position.
3. The committee will write the job posting, advertise the position on appropriate job boards, and receive applications up to one month after the posting date. The Finance Committee and BOT will set the pay range for the position.
4. A search committee will be formed consisting of Personnel Committee members and others who work closely with the person in the vacant position (e.g., supervisor, music committee members, R.E. teachers, etc.). The search committee will review applications and select applicants to be interviewed.
5. The Personnel Committee will contact the selected applicants to schedule interviews. Interviews will be conducted by the Search Committee who will then recommend which applicants should have a second interview with the Minister and representative from the BOT.
6. In the case of an urgent need to fill a position, the supervisor in consultation with the Personnel Committee, may temporarily hire within budgeted pay scale pending final approval by the BOT.
7. Nursery staff will be selected and hired by the Director of Religious Education in consultation with the Personnel Committee.
8. Upon approval by the BOT of the proposed new hire, the Personnel Committee will contact the candidate, deliver an offer letter, write up the compensation agreement with the help of the Treasurer and get it signed, and arrange a start date. The Personnel Committee will provide a copy of the signed agreement to the Treasurer promptly after hiring.
